ASUS Also Showcases Syncables at Computex!

Last week, we shared the exciting news about Syncables360 being showcased by Intel at Computex Taipei to demonstrate wireless syncing of computers and phones.  Equally exciting for us was ASUS also showcasing Syncables at their booth using this video, which ran throughout the show:

Syncables to Demonstrate Wireless Syncing of Computers and Phones with Syncables® 360 and Intel® My WiFi Technology at Computex

ASUS Selects Syncables Desktop to Bundle on ASUS System Notebooks Shipped Worldwide

Syncables Now Shipping Preloaded with Three of the Top Five Computer Manufacturers

News From The Front – Or Rather The Netbook Summit!

I attended day one of the Netbooks Summit yesterday. In general it was a fairly well attended event with many industry people participating from hardware, services and software areas. Some great information was presented and I met a bunch of folks from across the industry.
 
The day was broken into 4 main parts – with panelist discussions, key note addresses, early evening a reception and finally “Chat With The Experts” in the evening, where I ran the software discussion table.
 
There was a lot of great information presented, but there were two sessions that stood out for me from a Syncables perspective -- the “New Paradigms in Netbooks” session in the morning and “Netbooks on the Network” session. In both sessions a key topic was how people’s computing patterns are changing with the advent of Netbooks, Smartbooks and tablet computers. One common theme was that the growth of these ultra mobile computers all creates some very intriguing opportunities for companies and a growing breadth of advantages for users. The bottom line conclusions were that Netbooks are here to stay.
 
I have to note that there was a particular emphasis in the networking session on connecting the Netbook to the rest of the WiFi landscape for – syncing and sharing files, syncing and mobilizing media, streaming media, connecting to wireless printers, TVs and more. All of the Netbook environment which they outlined was ideally suited for Syncables. I of course could not resist the temptation to note this fact to the group, along with our adoption by major manufacturers like HP to include on their own Netbooks. It was exciting to see that “the vision” the folks outlined for tomorrow for net books was most of what Syncables does today! And most of the other areas we will do later this year – Kudos to Syncables engineering team!
 

Later in the evening, in the “Chat with the Experts” session I was fortunate to sit at the table with a range of industry folks from Atheros, ARM, JolieCloud, NetbookNews.com, Intel and others. We had a lively debate on a range of topics. The key topic to note came from the member from Intel, who outlined some interesting research on the netbooks user, grouping them into four main groups:

1. new lite user – just wants to surf the web, do email, maybe view a photo…that is all
2. disgruntled – not happy with the lighter functions of the Netbook and buys a range of peripheral devices to increase the scope of their Netbooks experience, eg: more storage, docking stations, DVD drive, etc etc etc 
3. 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) PC – the Netbook as an add-on “screen” within the home to surf the web, do email and light productivity tasks and play media
4. Mobile Professional – this user uses the Netbook as a lite extension to the laptop or desktop to take to meetings, trips or home in order to stay connected

 
Are any of these folks you??? Scary but I might be at least two of them… maybe three! But was exciting to hear that Syncables meets the needs of all four of Intel’s Netbook users.

Company Vice Presidents Serve on Netbook Summit Advisory Board and Experts Panel for May Industry Event

Got a HP Mini with Syncables and can't get past the Licence Agreement screen? Check out this tip!!

All,

It has come to our attention that some HP Mini users are unable to use the Syncables app because they are unable to get past the "license agreement" screen.

We have finally been able to track down the source of this problem - DPI Settings!

If your DPI settings are higher than 96, it causes the "accept" button on the license agreement screen to be cut off (and therefore you are unable to get past this screen to continue using the software).

The workaround to address this issue is to change your DPI settings to 96, relaunch the syncables app, and you will then be able to see and click on the "accept" button on that pesky license agreement screen :-)

Note: You can always revert back to your previous DPI settings and still be able to use the app. The issue is only specific to the license agreement screen.

FYI, here is how to change your DPI settings:

Windows 7 Users:

1. Right click on a empty area of your desktop and click on Personalize.
2. Towards the bottom left corner, click on the Display link. This will open up a window from where you can modify your DPI settings.
3. Select the smaller - 100% Default option
4. Click Apply

Windows Vista Users:

1. Right click on a empty area of your desktop and click on Personalize.
2. Towards the top left corner, click on the Adjust font size (DPI)  link. This will open up a window from where you can modify your DPI settings.
3. Select the Default scale (96 DPI) - fit more information option
4. Click Apply

Windows XP Users:

1. Go to the Windows "Start Menu and click on Control Panel.
2. Click on the Display icon. This will open up the "Display Properties" window
   
3. From the "Display Properties" window, choose on the Settings tab, and then click Advanced
4. Go to the General tab.
5. Select the GNormal size (96 DPI) option from the DPI setting section.
6. Click Apply
